Foo Dog lion statues were commonplace statues used as palace guards and for protecting the Buddhist temples. They are often depicted as fierce guard dogs with faces of lions. It is thought that such fierce faces would protect dwellers against evil spirits. It is said that Foo dogs should be kept in pairs. The traditional form usually bears the set with the male holding the ball while the female tends to her cub. Our beautiful set is made of cold cast bronze.
